Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

Cats

September 22, 2010 — 1:18 pm

“What are you going to do with the cats?” they said when I was pregnant. “What do you mean?” I asked them.

“Well you’re going to have to keep them away from the baby, right?”

I guess they figured the cats would attack the baby or something.

Or would react badly to having their fur grabbed.

They’re probably right. Cats and babies, I just don’t see that working out.

(Just a disclaimer that Merlin jumped up there voluntarily and was free to leave at any point. I think he actually liked it. He’s a weird cat.)

CUTE! We have a new kitten in our family that looks a lot like Merlin. And yes, the cats get along fine with a toddler too. (Although poor Kif has gotten poked and prodded a bit more than normal–he has been good natured about it).

  2. Those pictures are adorable! Our cats aren’t quite that mellow, but they tolerate the baby pretty well. I also couldn’t believe how many people made comments about us getting rid of our cats once the baby came. I would NEVER ever even consider that for a second.

we have two cats. our son seriously pounds on one of them, the boy kitty, and he just lays there and takes it. the other, the girl kitty, is smart enough that when she sees him coming, she hides. :) he is actually really good with both of them and vice versa.

and your little girl is so precious! :)

Sooooo CUTE! I just love her face :) Our cat would never tolerate a baby/toddler touching her. Merlin is brave.

  6. The third picture, when Kate is kissing Merlin, looks so much like you! And then the very next one, when she looks right at the camera, it’s all Den!

Thanks for sharing this lovely photo story.

I just love the one where she’s nomming Merlin.

The next cat I get will most definitely be a tuxedo – they are just the friendliest ones. (Said as the mommy of an orange and white who meows at the ceiling and pees on our rugs.) :)

I’m looking forward to seeing how my cats and the sproglet interact. Artemis and sproglet seem to be getting along well via my tummy at the moment!

“My feline steed!” my husband declares of that last picture. We too let baby and cats play, and in spite of Leah’s fur-pulling tendencies, we’ve not had an incident yet. :D

That is too funny. I, too, have a cat that seems to like being “abused” by my little one!

Evie tortures the cats and they LOVE it. LOVE it.

Adorable! I get so annoyed when people try to say that cats are dangerous for babies (WTF?). Those pictures are so incredibly precious. <3
