Afternoon Sickness
[6w0d]
I forgot how bad the nausea is. Wow. And this time I actually have to WORK all day? It’ll be interesting to see how tomorrow goes – how am I supposed to manage it when I have to puke but a customer is in front of me? Anyone else had to deal with that one? I’m practicing my breathing.
Thankfully so far I am not throwing up newly-eaten food – I need to keep it down. It seems to be the empty stomach that is the worst, although the too-full stomach is almost as bad. Snack snack snack. I went to the grocery store to stock myself up on snacks of all kinds: yogurt, fruit cups, bread (for toast, etc), granola bars, etc. My little mini bagels are working well for me too. I also got myself some Carnation Instant Breakfast for when I’m running out the door. I’m trying to make myself a little list of foods that don’t make me queasy, for easy reference.
But at the same time… I’m not willing to start unisom (which is what I took when I was pregnant with Devin, for the nausea) or any other anti-nausea meds. I need the daily reassurance. As miserable as it makes me feel physically, emotionally it’s helping a lot. It feels normal, it feels good. It feels pregnant. I’m sure at some point after some ultrasounds I’ll say enough is enough and start the unisom. But I’m just taking that one day at a time.
I definitely have been relaxing slightly every day that passes. I have had some very tiny bit of brown spotting – which isn’t freaking me out much anymore – but otherwise it’s been all prometrium. I realized how much better it is when today I felt the prometrium leaking and didn’t go running to the bathroom to double check.
I do need more sleep, however. I am really struggling on 7 hours.

You have a brilliant way of looking at the puking hehehe I am glad though that it helps reassure you.
so happy for the nausea! but i know it sucks ;) btw, loved the picture-you look so happy
Your happiness in the midst of morning, er, “afternoon” sickness is inspiring!
i love the way you see the all day sickness as…but as unfortunate as it is…it is definately a positive sign! YAY!
i cannot imagine having to work in front of people and having to feel like you’re about to be sick.. that’s gotta be difficult.. talk about talent.
if i may ask what does the prometrium do?
wrist bands. i’m telling you. they. work.
Cynthia – Prometrium is a progesterone-replacement. IVF kind of messes some things up, it removes the corpus luteum which produces progesterone and estrogen in a normal pregnant woman, so I have to replace that in my body until the placenta takes over.
oh ok that’s interesting thanks for the info…i figured it was progesterone but i was a little confused…interesting :)
sorry, I know the morning/afternoon sicknes sucks. I had it through 16 weeks and mine was also worse in the afternoon, even after lunch. Wrist bands did nothing for me. The only thing that helped was Zofran. I think you can take up to three a day but I just would take one in the morning and was good all day. For some reason Dr. Pepper helped me greatly too. :)
Hello!
Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks worked great for me… got a little something in my stomach, and I could manage through the morning (along with peanut butter sandwiches)… :) Good luck!
Be careful with the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I tried that when I was pregnant with Nina, and let me just tell you, that is one of the most disgusting things I have ever thrown up! lol It seemed harmless enough because it was liquid, but I swear the milk and powder separated in my stomach. So. Gross.
Anyway, I’m glad you’re feeling better about the pregnancy for the most part, and I’m really hoping beyond hope for a healthy, happy little baby at the end of this road. :)
