Progesterone

December 13, 2006 — 6:37 pm

I called the RE Nurse voicemail, asked them to please let me know what my progesterone was. The nurse called back while I was in a store at the cashier and left a message on my phone. She said my progesterone level was 70.8. I listened to the message twice. I had Den listen to the message. She definitely said 70, not 17. It was a big ol’ WTF?!?! moment, because I was expecting a number between, say, 10 and 25. 70 is huge. On the forums people think she meant 17. I don’t think so. I found this on an infertility website:

Additionally, you may get very high progesterone levels after IVF because so many follicles were created. (Progesterone is made by the corpus luteum, which is the site on the ovary from which the egg is released. The more eggs are produced, the more progesterone is produced.)

So it stands to reason that with four eggs, four corpus luteums, my levels would be much higher than “normally” expected.

Hey there! I’m 38 and on my first clomid cycle too (also 100 mg, day 3 – 7)! We’ve been trying for six months but I didn’t want to waste any time because I’m an old lady. I had a scan on day 10, which showed one at 15, two at 14 and two at 10. Will go in tomorrow (day 14) for another scan and maybe get “triggered”. (So far my RE is advising to do everything natural.) I’m really hoping that the big 3 are still around and ready to pop. Thanks for your stats! That is exactly what I wanted to know and if I do have the big 3 still kicking around in there, I might allow myself to be somewhat hopeful that this could actually work. I guess you are exactly one week ahead of me now so good luck and I will check back to hear your news!

    Hi Natalie!

That progesterone level sounds awesome! If it was a progesterone deficiency that was keeping you from getting preggo before, you dont have to worry about that happening this time! Im so excited for you to test!
and having a level of 70 is realistic :) Its VERY high (and very promising!) but I have seen women on FF with similiar numbers (almost all had BFPs!)
    Good luck!

Ohhhh, thanks for telling me that! I’d never seen a number like that, so I was confused! :) And I have no idea what my progesterone was before… it wasn’t tested. But it’s definitely not a problem this month!

    Hi Natalie,

Just got back from scan and I do have 3 huge follies ready to pop. Not back for an old lady! RE is pleased too. I also surged this morning on my opk so I guess I get to spend this weekend on my back!

BTW, I have two kids, and the second was born in a free-standing birth center here in NYC – completely NATURAL, no drugs, no nothing, with midwives in attendance. I have to tell you that it was the most wonderful experience of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. How many people can say that about the experience of childbirth?????

If you ever want to know more, let me know and good luck to you!

    Sandy

    Yay for 3 follies!

I might want to chat about non-medicated childbirth later when I’m pregnant… I’m very interested in that. :) I like hearing stories like yours… the kind that go well. LOL
