Insurance Coverage

November 18, 2006 — 8:32 pm

Just a clarification, after I read the sheet for 2007. What is covered for infertility:

* Any medically necessary diagnostic and testing proceedures needed to treat diagnosed infertility
* Ovulation induction (clomid or injectibles), maximum of 4 cycles per recipient per lifetime (whether combined with IUI or otherwise)
* IUI, maximum of 3 cycles per recipient per lifetime
* IVF/GIFT/ZIFT, maximum of 2 cycles per recipient per lifetime

Per lifetime. :| Whoever figures out what can and can’t be covered and how much obviously has never dealt with this problem. :| *wants to smack sense into them*

Yeah I know. :( And to be honest we are LUCKY to get even this much covered. Most people in the US having nothing covered at all. And, depending on what you do to treat infertility, meds can cost around $2000 per cycle, IVF over $10,000 per cycle…. it’s such a harsh reality, facing the fact that in order to get pregnant not only do you have to be dependent on a bunch of doctors, but you have to somehow find all this money to pay for it. I’m very thankful we have some coverage.
