Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

I carry your heart

July 15, 2010 — 10:28 pm
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Hi Nat, thank you for the poem – I truly hated ee cummings at school, but they clearly never showed me that poem – it is beautiful!

As for the parenting thing, you are doing just fine – as well as any of us can – it is trickiest thing and not the thing you think about through all those ‘trying to bring a baby home’ times. Keep enjoying the good bits and remember that we all just ‘survive’ the hard stuff, no one likes it and no one truly avoids it. Don’t trust those people who claim to have perfect children and then give you advice.

As for it getting easier, well, no, different – yes, easier – not so much. My oldest daughter is now 16 and gets invited to unsupervised mixed sleepover parties!!! (Emphatic NO, in case you’re wondering). I remember how hard the early days were but they were less scary in some ways because I could do so much more to keep her safe.

Thank you for sharing your journey.
    Bridg

I love her onesie “sleepy” and i think mommy could wear it too!!! she is truly remarkable. i’m amazed at how, in just a couple months they go from tiny, helpless, soft little lumps of squishy soft flesh to little people with smiles, frowns, happiness…truly amazing.
