Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

Mommy’s lesson, presented by Sheepie

April 22, 2010 — 10:27 pm

Well Mommy needed to practice, and I was an appropriate-sized fill-in. She wanted to try this cloth diapering thing out.

First she fiddled around with the prefold. It was cold. It’s a good thing she took the time to practice with me, and not the little kid; I think she’d have less patience with it than I did.

Looks like she got it folded.

A Snappi to hold it together…

And ta-da! A cute cloth butt! Minus the cover.

(Daddy says we don’t have to use the snappi, he can just use the velcro cover. It looks far easier that way, he says.)

Next mommy wanted to try out the swing. It works fine. Though I can’t figure out why there are mini sheepies floating around above my head? Well, I guess the kid will like it.

Mommy has re-organized this shelf like 4 times now. Lots of the kid’s things, including those cloth diapers.

Oh, and here’s the kid’s dresser. It’s FULL of her clothes. Which, again, mommy keeps re-organizing. The kid also has a little piggy bank on top of it now. Considering mommy’s a banker (at least for another 3 weeks she is) and – so is the auntie who gave it to her – it’s rather appropriate!

That’s it for now! Maybe mommy will have more to show off another day.

Prefolds and Thirsties covers are still our favorite cloth diaper to use, though we didn’t have much luck without using a Snappi- for some reason it didn’t work on our son without a good latch.

Thirsties/Dappis and prefolds our our choice, too. Daddy is right, though..you can use cloth without the snappi..but ONLY once Kate is older. The breastfed poop will stay in the prefold a bit better and not get on the cover if you use a snappi when she is still tiny. You can ditch the snappies when she gets bigger and the prefolds don’t fit around her waist. To make your cloth last longer, you can then fold them long ways and set them in the center of the cover. Thirsties are great at holding EVERYTHING in. You won’t have any leaks. We love cloth diapering. She’s 15 months and we’ve only bought one pack of disposables..during a trip out of the country where we wouldn’t have access to a washer.

Thanks for the info, fiddle! I was thinking about the poops. Even with the snappi it looks pretty darn simple. and the Thirsties seem so stretchy and way easy to put on – they just were pretty huge on poor Sheepie, LOL.

  7. natalie –

I noticed that swing you have..I have the same one in pink and brown and letme tell you – Nola slept in it ALL the time when she was just born and still does now but it was a life saver when we first came home!
    Your going to love it!!!

I hated snappis… mine would snap off under the cover and scratch against his privates. After that happened twice, I threw away the snappis. After that we just trifolded in thirsties and it worked great, even with breast fed poo. Although the covers did get dirty often, so we’d go through 3 or 4 per day, but I’d rather wash covers than let the snappi hurt him. I did try pins for awhile, but they are incredibly hard to push through GMD prefolds (they go through other prefolds just fine).

Yay, another CD mum! WTG! We use FuzziBunz, mostly, but did use prefolds and covers for a while – stopped because my son’s enormously chunky thighs with small waist made for a hard time getting a good fit. But I’ve heard Thirsties covers are THE way to go, and they come in snaps too – which I highly recommend! (We have a couple of dipes with velcro, and my son has been able to get them off since he was about 10 months old!)
