Time to Trigger
My E2 did not go down. (However, it was not as high as I thought it was – apparently yesterday it was only at 6050, not 6500 – that is a good thing.) Today it’s… 6051.
However, the head doctor – the one in charge of my case – has decided that I should trigger anyways. Retrieval is set for Thursday morning, 9am. I take my trigger at 7pm tonight, giving me that 38 hour interval that has the potential to make all the difference.
Now I’m not really sure why he decided to trigger me today and not yesterday. I don’t think the nurses do either. Maybe he’s worried that waiting longer will hurt my eggs, maybe he just thinks that waiting longer won’t help the E2. I’m really not sure why yesterday we waited and today we don’t, but there’s obviously some reasoning behind it.
My levels are not at a crazy level – but they’re certainly within the risk range. However I just looked at my first cycle levels, and on trigger day they were 5500, so not that much lower… and if I got any OHSS that cycle it was supremely mild.
But more than my health I am worried about my poor little eggs. How many there ends up being retrieved is not nearly so important to me as how many – if any – are mature enough. Will the early trigger be enough? Did my eggs get a slow enough start to be good quality? Friday is going to be the worst wait yet.
Onward to retrieval.

Thinking positive thoughts for you!
Good luck.
Sending positive vibes your way!
I love that doctor you are referring to. He was the one who called me when my cycle was canceled b/c my E2 level dropped in the middle of my stims. He was so wonderful explaining everything. He was wonderful the next cycle too in keeping a close eye on my cycle and making sure the same thing didn’t happen a second time. He and the nurses made the whole experience so much better!
Crossing everything that can be crossed for you!
Wishing you a bunch of nicely ripe eggs. Good luck!
Jess – This is my first cycle under the direct care of this particular doctor, but I’ve been with the nurses for a while. They are just so wonderful!!
yea!! i have been waiting all day to read your post. geez, i can’t believe your E2 is so high. i mean you must have some good eggies in there somewhere. i totally understand though, that they need to grow in a linear fashion and not exponentially. i am really excited for you…each step is just one more hurdle that you’ve made it over. first you needed your insurance, you got it. next you needed AF to arrive at the right time, you got it. next you need some eggs. you REALLY have that. next you need mature eggs…that is the hurdle you are in the middle of jumping over :)
oh, and yes, i would totally love to borrow some of your wonderful ovarian response and in exchange i can offer mature eggs? LOL
here’s to mature eggs!!!!
I just caught up on your last month of posts! Took me a while.
I had OHSS with my first IVF after retrieval even though my E2 levels weren’t high at all! They wouldn’t do the transfer since I literally couldn’t walk due to the pain. It was awful! They said there was fluid up near my armpits and surrounding my diaphram which is why I was having horrific pain when trying to breathe.
But I got good advice that helped me next time. After the retrieval don’t lay down! Not even to sleep. Sleep in a chair even. It’s worth the uncomfortableness to keep the fluid from filling your abdomen and chest.
Here’s to many healthy eggs!
