Life Bites
I think this virus is finally on its way out of my system. Of course the three worst days of it were the three I had to work at the bank. I felt really bad about handling money when I’m sick. I used a lot of hand sanitizer. (This has really made me realize I’m going to get sick a lot more often now.) I still felt crappy yesterday morning, but by evening my sinuses are clearing out. This morning my throat is bugging me… a byproduct of the drainage, I guess. I’ll be glad when this is gone.

Just when I think I’m finding my footing I feel like jumping off a bridge again. My car failed inspection. Frame is rotted, he said. What?? The guy – a snotty, I don’t give a shit about your life guy, shrugged and told me he doesn’t think there’s a way to fix it, the car is “old.” Old?? My last car was over 20 years old and in good shape. This one is 7! You don’t go shrugging and telling me it’s time to junk it! Fucking asshole!
Regardless, “frame” is not a word one ever wants to hear when it comes to broken car parts. I am in a panic. I just bought the car last year (at what time it passed inspection without a problem with the frame). We cannot afford to buy a new car.
I just feel so defeated. I don’t even have much optimism anymore. I walked up to the car with a sinking feeling… it could have passed inspection, it could have been a minor problem. But it wasn’t. It was exactly what I expected.

Hi Nat. I’m sorry things are so shitty for you right now. I hate that feeling of everything falling on top of you. I just want to send you virtual hugs and tell you that I think of you often.
Wow. FRAME?! Seriously, is it made of tin foil or bamboo or something? Was it previously in a flood? I can’t imagine. Are you allowed a second opinion? (some states you’re allowed 10 days or whatever to fix or go someplace else.) I’m so sorry for everything. Rains/pours.
Your symptoms do sound like allergies — w/post nasal drip. I’m once again forgetting where exactly you are, but ragweed is out now as are various molds. A number of people around here have also had a flu-like thing, so I guess we can’t discount that either. Anyway, hope it’s on the way out.
A frame does not ‘rot’. What an arse that guy was! It can rust but that is usually due to an accident that was not repaired correctly. When you bought the car did they disclose that there was frame damage? If not then you *might* have some recourse with the owner/dealership.
I would take it to a body shop for an estimate. If there is something major then I would take it back to the dealership and tell them what you found and that it must have exsisted when you bought it. (I assume you have not had an accident lately so it must have been done prior to you buying it.)
Also, salt on the roads can do lots of harm to metal so that might be a culprit.
I work in auto insurance claims so lmt if you have any questions.
Also, I would try to get another testing place to pass your car. Good luck!
No, this car has never been in an accident (I checked the carfax report before I bought it). Plus it was in perfect shape last year, when it was inspected just after I bought it!
I assume he meant some rusting from the salts on the road. I talked with my brother about this, and he pointed out that that sort of thing does not happen suddenly over the course of one winter. There must have been something going on last year for it to suddenly be completely gone this year.
I’ll be getting it looked over by someone I trust to figure out WTF is actually wrong. I am really angry and really scared. I cannot afford to lose my car.
I certainly hope it is an easy fix. They might can just do some ‘corrosion protection’. It is usually applied when they do a repair but it might could be done here too. KUP!
I just thought of something you should mention to your doctor about your sinus problem… When I was a teller I had a perpetual runny nose. For three years. Then when I changed departments and stopped handling cash it went away. Your comment about using the sanitizer reminded me. Handling all that well-worn germ packed money might be either causing or at least exacerbating your problem. It is definitely something new for your immune system to be handling.
I agree about the car. Take it somewhere else for a second opinion.
