Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

But the bad news….

August 28, 2008 — 11:08 pm

I’m getting faaaaaat. I noticed at work. I slouch down in my chair when I’m bored and… wtf is that? My shirt is baggy. Wait… that’s not my shirt. That’s my fat! Ug. Guess it’s true… the belly is just not going to ever go back to normal. It still pooches out far more than it ever did before.

But the chub around my hips and waist? Yeah. That’s just me. Yeah, umm, I need to get back to exercising. And stop eating so much junk. I have been seriously bad with the cravings and the food eating. I indulge myself way too often. It makes me feel better. Yes… I said it. I comfort myself with food. Shit.

Chubbawubbawubba.

That’s a good way to think about it. I’ll be pregnant again soon… this is just preparation! (I am happy to show earlyearly when I’m pregnant. As long as I am actually pregnant, not “just ate”. ;)

I am right there with you. I’ve had the exact same poofy shirt realization. HATE that.

Green tea and muscle building exercise seems to be the trick… We’ve had a friend living with us off and on for the past three weeks, and he started me in on drinking green tea (like the Special Gunpowder kind you have to go to the Asian market to get) instead of soda and we started going to the gym and it’s been making somewhat of a difference… Not so much in me because I was a little shy at trying the weights at first, but my friend has lost something like 7 pounds since we started. The new muscle ends up burning fat 24/7 and the green tea helps boost your metabolism.

Don’t feel bad, Nat. I do the same thing when I’m stressed. My weaknesses are ice cream and chocolate soy milk. Some days I can drink a half-gallon of the stuff!

Atleast you got down close to your pre-preggo weight. Mine kind of hit a plateau and now it’s creeping back up again. : /

Ahh, the post-prego body. So lovely, so aggravating.

  8. Nat says:

Actually, I’m still at my pre-preg weight (I had gotten below it by a couple)… it’s just that the pounds are distributed way differently than they once were! Eeek!)

I wouldn’t worry about how you look. You look thin to me. I gained about 20 pounds between my positive pregnancy test and my first OB appointment (not really but you get the point).

Comforting yourself with food is very common- I do it too and so do many women who are grieving. As an RD, I counsel people to find something else to replace the urge. I have taken up walking with my dog. At this point, though, we have enough to beat ourselves up with and feel terrible about. Worry about your weight after your baby arrives.

At least you’re at pre-preg weight. Try being at post preg weight and not able to shift it *sigh*

I also comfort eat. I hope that changes soon with the job. I’ll be on my feet 4 days a week, running around teaching. The last time I taught secondary (high) school, I managed to lose a bit of weight *fingers crossed*
