Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

Confused

June 27, 2008 — 1:14 pm

Well now I’m not really sure if it was ovulation. I mean, it sure felt like it… but the OPK this morning was pretty dark. An *almost* positive. I thought you ovulated like a good 24 hours after your surge? My first positive wasn’t until yesterday morning.

I mean, it’s basically academic because the fact is ovulation will occur either today or tomorrow, so what does it matter? But you know me. I need to take things apart and figure it out. lol

My RE said that the cramping can happen before the egg is actually released, so right around when you’d get the surge.

luna is right – there are many theories as to what causes ovulation pain. It might be a stretching of tissue as the follicle enlarges before it bursts. Or perhaps it was the position of your ovary at that particular point in time causing the folicle to press on other structures (or create a temporary decrease in blood flow causing a cramp – as has been the case when I’ve had cysts). Personally, I get one or two sharp, intermittant cramps before I actually ovulate and then a dull constant ache after I ovulate, likely from the remaining cyst leaking a little blood.

Interesting… thanks for the info, guys!

You can ovulate anytime between 12-48 hrs. after a positive OPK. Then again, there is always a slight chance you may not even O.

Last cycle, I got 3 positive OPK’s, as dark they come, and still didn’t O. Could have been stress, hormones still leveling out, or just an anovulatory cycle.

Nat – Ever since I had Sebastian for the first time in my life I get O pain, and it hurts and it lasts about 6-8 hours. I asked my OB about it and she said it is more than likely the ovaries getting ready to release the egg, so maybe it was the same for you? Who knows.

Ditto on the pain. I actually get kinda crampy now AFTER I O as well (Different than the jabby pain you describe, which I also get when I O). Thank you body.

And your cats? Are adorable. You look terrific, btw.
