I’m such a dork. :) I found a link on someone’s site to this eye color calculator, and started playing with it. But that was boring, just guessing. I asked Den what color his parents’ eyes were and his reply was, “I dunno, brown?” :roll: How can he not know?? I know my dad’s and brothers’ eyes are the same color as mine – a light blue – and my mom’s is a blue-green. But in any case, I have a method of research at my fingertips: wedding photos! I went through them, squinting half the time. Not only did I get his parents’ eye colors, but I got his gram’s and all his siblings.

Data: His mom and dad do both have brown eyes. However, his dad has two sons by his second wife – who happens to have blue eyes – and one of the kids has blue eyes! Which means, dad carries blue recessive genes. :D And gram – his mom’s mom – has blue eyes, which means Den’s mom also has blue recessive genes. Woo hoo!! So I plugged all that info into the eye color calculator thingie for his mom and dad, to get the probabilities of Den’s eyes. Of course there are SIX different brown types, which sucks – he could be any of them, but it spit out probabilities for each.

Soooo I put all those probabilities into excell and from there calculated the probability of which genes he would pass on, and from there the probabilities of each color of eyes for any baby he has with me. Here are the results!

Blue 50.02%
Green 16.58%
Brown 33.40%

Of course those numbers are based entirely off the probabilities of that program. If I knew exactly what genes Den has (ie, if he’s carrying blue recessive or not) I could calculate better probabilities, but I’ll take what I get. ;)

I’m just totally psyched to find out we even have a CHANCE at having blue-eyed kids. I thought for sure since he was brown-eyed and his parents were too that it would be 100% brown. I am extremely fond of my blue eyes.
