Letters to my children
Dearest Kate,
Considering the fact that I have told you at least 19 times not to stand on your chair in front of the television and had you put the chair back where it belongs, I am really struggling to understand your surprise and tantrum when on the 20th time I again took the chair.
Also, the horse and ball are not to be used to stand on in front of the TV, either. Those will get taken away too.
Love, Mama

Ember,
I realize that you are just now discovering what an interesting place the world is. You have your hands, your feet, mama’s face… all kinds of fun things to stare at and play with. But? You still need to nap…. and for longer than 30 minutes a day. Please. Take a real nap. No one is happy by evening and then you can’t do the fun things you want to do.
Love, Mama

My second daughter, who was also a great sleeper and loved to sleep on her own with no effort on my part to put her to sleep, also started taking very short daytime naps at the 5-month time frame. It drove me crazy. She’d awaken, and then be so interested in rolling over and looking around, it was hopeless that she’d go back to sleep. I finally had to swaddle her in the daytime so she’d take longer naps. I never swaddled her up until that point. Worked like a charm, and I didn’t have to do it at night.
Well that is interesting! I may have to try that if she keeps this up. Poor girl is so tired and yet when I go in there to try shushing her back to sleep she thinks she’s wide awake. She’s been cooing at me in the dark too. LOL But not at night, no… just naps.
I love your “letters to my children” idea. A great way to remember what they did/said at any age.
