Sleep Disturbances
This whole sleep thing? I could really use more of it. I have several things working against me:
* Heartburn. Oh good god, the heartburn. Some nights it’s minor. Some, like tonight, I feel like my throat is going to burn to a crispy pile of AGGHHH. Every time I roll over I get another wave of acid reflux that chokes me. And I need to roll over many times.
* Dreams and REM sleep. So one of the books I was reading mentioned how pregnant women dream more vividly and more often because their sleep patterns change – more REM sleep, less deep, sound sleep. So I’m waking frequently, which is so not like me. The dreaming started long ago, but this waking every hour thing is new. I’m not a fan.
* Peeing and contractions. Yes, these actually do go hand-in-hand. When I contract I need to pee really bad. And when my bladder is full I contract more. So there is a lot of middle-of-the-night trips to the bathroom. It’s a pain in the ass. I dislike having my bladder be constantly squeezed like a lemon.
* The dogs. We have yet to buy them a new dog bed for the bedroom and the price we pay is a huge german shepherd on our bed. Despite Den’s planning and cajoling, he still prefers to sleep on my side of the bed, since I take up much less space than my sprawled-out husband. Unfortunately I NEED that space to be able to shift around and turn over 100 times a night – it is taking more effort to turn the belly over than ever. Zeeke does not understand this. So every half an hour (or so it seems) I have to wake up, kick the dog, hiss, “MOVE!,” he jumps down, I roll over, he jumps back up, we fall back asleep. This is not fun for either of us. I think he’s started rolling his eyes at me.
I am getting slightly cranky at night.

Ooof! I hope you get some rest soon. If it is at all reassuring, I slept SO horribly near the end of my pregnancy, and I was about ready to PUNCH every person who said something like “if you think it’s bad now, just wait,” so I’m actually here to say it was better after the baby came. So, if you don’t get sleep soon, that isn’t dooming you necessarily to terrible sleep for the next forever. :) *hugs*
You need to get that dog a bed! :-)
I agee with N, the sleep (physically at least) gets better once the baby comes.
I had the heartburn something FIERCE with Evie – the doc put me Prilosec and it helped soooo much. Try it. Hugs chica – you are in the final countdown – woot!
Oh wow. I’m a week behind you, but let me just say I’m right there with you. If my husband snores I kick him out of the bedroom and send him to the guest room because EVERYTHING wakes me up. The cat has been locked away several nights for the same reason…Zeeke would not be safe in my home ;-) I’ve always had bouts of insomnia, but now not only do I have trouble going back to sleep, I can’t get to sleep either. I’m considering Depends so I don’t have to get out of bed to pee (not really…but I mean C’MON). And the icky heartburn just started too. And I’m still working – they are all lucky I don’t kill someone on a daily basis.
This must be like the teenage years, where you would never want your child to leave you if it wasn’t so painful to be around them! I cannot wait to meet her on the outside :)
Aw, girl. Kick the dog out. You need your sleep while you can still get it!
Almost there, almost there. *hugs*
We rescued a lot of stray cats and one of the best things we did was train them that if they sleep on our feet, they’re going to get kicked and jostled. Now none of them mind being bumped around by my constant wiggles.
The day I hit 36 weeks, our alpha male cat made a roster of who sleeps with mama and when. The boy cats have always preferred my husband and usually spend their evenings with him. At 36 weeks, every time I roll over, there’s a different male cat plastered against me. I really think the alpha knows something is different because he does not let me sleep alone.
