Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

Go read this instead

I have a post in the works but no time this weekend to sit down and finish it. So instead I want everyone to go over to read Mrs. Spit: Superbowls and Abortions. Such a brilliant, well-written post.

I really hadn’t heard much about the ad or that story other than it existed. But that definitely was very well written.

Someone can’t get on the air and say “Thanks, mom” for choosing life? What is so horrible about that anyway? Preclampsia is rare and most women who have abortions aren’t dealing with life/death situations. It more they choose to end the pregnancy for other reasons.

The problem is that those opposing abortion don’t make exceptions for those rare circumstances. Pre-eclampsia, along with a host of other not-compatable-with-life conditions, happen to a lot of women. And until they find some miracle way to make sure none of them do happen to anyone you’re going to run into situations like Mrs. Spit’s. Are they the majority of cases? No. But it happens.

They spent millions of dollars to air a political statement. It is plenty fair to open commentary on it.

My heart goes out to Mrs. Spit. No one should have to make such a decision. However, the *overwhelming* majority of abortions are not such cases. I personally don’t believe any pro-life law that would be passed would stop a doctor from saving the life of a dying mother. I have been pro-life for a long time, but would never support a law that didn’t allow a doctor to save the life of a mother. Such situations are a world away from most abortions that are normally taking place in the US day in and day out. It does sadden me, though, that such a commercial would cause women like Mrs. Spit such pain. Again, my heart goes out to any family that has lost a baby is such a tragic way.

Thank you! I don’t know why … but I didn’t have her in my reader … and now she has been added! What an amazing post.

I’m waiting for the ad where Charlies Manson’s mom says “Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen life.” The whole thing is so utterly eye-roll worthy that I can’t take it.
