Pregnancy and Medication
From a woman on the pregnancy boards, when I asked about depression, meds and pregnancy:
the psychologist that I see for counsling told me that everyone is so differnet when it comes to pg hormones. He’s had both severely depressed women AND severely bipolor women be the MOST healthy (mentallY) they’ve ever been while pg and off meds. Some of them were on heavy duty meds like lithium to stablize mood and they assumed the worse would happen when going off and becoming pg…to their suprise, they never felt better.
Wow, I never knew that.
She also added this:
There is a peer reviewed study out there that mothers who were on Zoloft while pg, babies performed better than mother’s who were NOT on zoloft! Isn’t that weird? Zoloft had had a lot of reserach done for pg too and deemed “safe”. I know Prozac is too b/c it’s been around the longest and therefore studied the longest.
So maybe I’ll talk to my doctor about Prozac or Zoloft, but I’m already feeling better about it.
definitely talk to your dr about Zoloft. i took it my whole pregnancy and since then, and i didn’t have mood swings from the hormones like some. could be the zoloft, could be just me, but I also didn’t have any panic attacks or bouts of depression throughout the pregnancy. all i had was the normal anxiety of having my whole life change :)
Thanks, I will. :) And yeah, even though I’ve decided to TTC, I’m still having that anxiety about how this is going to change EVERYTHING. lol Gah. But I’m thinking that’s pretty normal. ;)
