Relaxing Doesn't Make Babies

Nutrition-what?

November 8, 2008 — 11:01 pm

No headache today!! Well, I had a headache of the other kind… the frustration kind where at the end of a shift you just want to slam your head into something because holy hell man, was it a game of how many mistakes I could make in one 3-hour period or something?? Ugh. But the actual physical head feels fine and clear.

I craved salad today, so that’s what I ate for lunch. It was good. I need to eat more salads. I am trying to figure out how to get more fruits and veggies in my diet, considering I do not like veggies and I hate buying either because they go bad in about .2 days. (I really have issues with my produce.) But I *need* to eat better! I’m starting the worrying already… are my food choices hurting my little eggs? Is this going to be the make-it-or-break-it for if we get an embryo out of this cycle? I’m all freaked out, especially since the doctor was right, eating dairy does make my allergies flare up worse. Shit. That has always been where I got most of my protein. I’m kind of screwed, aren’t I. Rock… hard place… me in the middle. Shit. Suggestions are welcome, though keep in mind that I’m a picky eater. So far I’m gravitating towards chicken, and I should eat more eggs and peanut butter.

I am also still feeling slightly nauseated when I eat. I’m hungry so I start chowing on something, then after a few bites I get this overwhelming “I’m full” feeling and eating more makes me feel very icky-nauseated. On the good side this has really curbed my pig-outs and I’ve dropped another pound. And yes, since I seem to be able to eat less, I am trying to eat better choices. My weight is now down to about 147 lbs, give or take (it fluctuates from day to day). I can probably attribute that to me not drinking milk anymore. I found a good way to discourage myself: I stopped buying organic. “Normal” milk tastes like shit to me now, so every time I lose my willpower and grab a secret glass of milk it tastes gross and I don’t want it anymore.

Still waking up all sweaty, though. That part is fantastic. Although that could be related to how warm it’s been lately… but it just seems too coincidental. Maybe I’ll try a lighter blanket tonight.

I’m picky too and don’t like many veggies. I really need to eat more of them though! And for protein, I only eat chicken and turkey. I love extra lean ground turkey because it is all white meat and very little fat. I also have peanut butter every morning on a whole wheat english muffin. Oh and beans are good for protein. I eat them a lot. One favorite- xtra lean ground turkey, black beans, kidney beans, taco seasoning. Cook it all. I top w/ sour cream and cheese, but that’s dairy! I usually eat it w/ very unhealthy tortilla chips, but oh so good!

I am loving breakfast burritos right now, lots of egg in those although probably not quite as tasty without cheese. But you can put ham or sausage, or whatever in there with the egg.

Also, get the Debbie Meyers green bags for produce. They advertise them on tv but I found them in the grocery store. They really do keep your produce fresh longer. We buy organic strawberries and they usually only last a day or two, with the green bag they last 4-5 days.

I don’t like veggies much either but I like them fine in a soup, which is good this time of year.

Try various beans they are usually high in protien too. My might want to check out a vegetarian’s guide to protien, might give you some additional sources of protein other than meat products.

I have been following your blog for a while– and wanted to offer some nutrition thoughts– am hoping the best for this cycle–
have you tried quinoa?– it is a complete protein and a grain– and tastes similar to couscous
ditto on the beans– as well as hummus–
also when I was trying to conceive #1 and now working on #2– i gave up wheat and dairy as well as (most) sugar.
I eat lots of rice, stir fry, hummus– chili, mexican,
about veggies– I like to cook up a mess of greens or other veggies and then eat it throughout the week- — I like the cookbook called– The vegetable dishes I can’t live without — for some incredibly yummy dishes and new ways of serving veggies– Mollie Katzen I think her name is– is great—

I second the soup idea. When I am just not in the mood for steamed veggies or salad, I make a big pot of veggie soup. You could throw some diced chicken in if you like that sort of protein.

Milk really makes me phlegm-y and makes my eczema worse. I really miss cottage cheese.
