President-Elect Obama
I am so thrilled, so relieved, so hopeful. This is the start of a new era. Maybe it’s a good sign of things to come for my family, bringing my child into the world with a new President.
Watching Obama walk out to cheers brings me almost to tears. I am, finally, proud to live here. I always knew I’d get my US Citizenship, but never felt excited about the idea of calling myself an American. Until now.
It IS time for change. For me. For all of us.
I am, however, disgusted with some of the questions on state ballots aiming at limiting the rights of same-sex couples – many of which are passing. It makes me so freaking angry. We may have made history tonight, but we still have a long way to go as a country. It is the large shadow on this momentous day.
bittersweet for sure
Hi Natalie,
Just wanted to say thank you for your advice on my blog for my friend. I really appreciate it.
I was watching the election last night- so relieved with the result. I think Canadians were more interested in it than the one we had last month.
Oh I can believe that, Turia! My parents barely mentioned their own election in passing, but we talked at length about the US Election. LOL
OH MY GOD….oh my god oh my god. I’m still in shock. Really, this payback almost makes up for the last 8 years of having a president I neither like nor trust. I’m with you on the same sex rights issues, as well.
while i did not vote for Obama i do agree that we need change. i also liked what you had to say about just voting in general. i knew Obama would win, especially in my state but i still voted and THAT is what matters.
I couldn’t agree more. While I feel hopeful about the future of our government and our country for the first time in a very very long time, I’m disgusted with the results of the same-sex marriage ballot measures. Why, why, why are people so mean-spirited?
I don’t think that people necessarily voting against gay marriage is to be mean-spirited. I think that people go to the polls with what they believe and vote that way rather than looking at the country as a whole and how the outcome would directly effect their lives. It wouldn’t. Companies here in TN are extending benefits to same sex couples living together regardless of how long and if I was living with my hubby and not married, we wouldn’t be covered. Of course, we would have the option to have a legal union, but they would not.
As far as Obama is concerned, what a historic yet crazy election. I did not vote for him but DH did… TN surprised me by staying a red state. I really had thought it would go along with Obama as they did with Clinton in the 90s.
It will be interesting to see if Obama can do all the things that everyone has built him up to do… He certainly can speak and energize a crowd. Waiting to see if he can lead.
