How Things Go

Well it’s been a little while, time for an update! All is pretty much going as usual. Zoe hasn’t had an accident in a long long time, except for one random out-of-the-blue pee accident: I walked out into the living room and found pee on the floor… she’d never signalled me. So that was weird. But other than that I could almost claim she’s potty-trained.

She is still chewing everything in sight, though. I go cross-eyed trying to keep tabs on it all. I don’t even know where she gets most of the stuff I find in her mouth - I’d clean it up, but I can’t find it! She has a great love for bits of paper, packaging, fluff, random small objects… gah. But she is still just as cheerful about handing them over to me, even though I can tell she’d much rather be chewing on them.

She put a puncture hole in yet another of my laptop cords, making me very unhappy - however, I was able to save it. It was just one of those days where the unexpected was happening - we had to have a service guy come look at our heater (which died on us, middle of winter - yuck!), so we put both dogs in the bedroom. Smacked my forehead for it later… never leave Zoe unattended in the bedroom. Doh.

The cat is continuing to progress in his interactions with the two dogs. He still plays frequently with Zoe, by biting her viciously. He’s also taken to just patting her nose with his paws and running off. Then the other day, after I’d taken Zeeke out, I was sitting on the couch watching TV. Zeeke was walking around the living room in front of me. All of a sudden the blanket on the couch (acting slipcover) exploded right below me - Jojo! For some completely unknown reason, he’d not gone running for the kitchen upon Zeeke’s re-entrance, he’d just stayed hiding under the blanket. (He LOVES hiding under blankets. It makes him feel stealthy.) So for the next ten minutes I put up with Zeeke barking (but not getting too close) and the blanket randomly errupting in between periods of complete stillness. It was crazy. Finally I had to put Zeeke in the bedroom, because he simply wouldn’t calm down. Then that evening the same thing happened again. Den went to check out why Zeeke was barking and said, “There’s no cat here.” I walked out and carefully reached down to pat the large lump hiding half under the couch, hidden by the blanket. “You mean this cat?” Hehe. So all in all I’m finding it very encouraging that Jojo is pushing his boundaries more and more. I just wish Zeeke would be a bit quieter about his self-assumed cat-alert job. *sigh*
