I just want to thank all my friends for the support you’ve all given me. I read some absolutely aweful stories on the forums – of friends saying, “If you do IUI or IVF I don’t want to know about it,” etc. Maybe it goes against her beliefs, maybe she’s just really really insensitive. But either way she ought to be supportive of her friend… or what kind of friend is she? So I am very thankful, that you guys are all so supportive, no matter how hard it is for us, no matter what route we end up taking.<\/p>\n
I also feel very thankful that both our parents are supportive. They all know we’re trying to conceive, and while they may not fully understand what we’re going through (since all of them had kids at the drop of a hat), they offer silent support anyhow. My mother doesn’t really know what to say, but encourages me by saying, “It’ll happen, Nat, it’ll happen.” His mom just listens to me talk about it and offers sympathy. I think sometimes that’s the best kind of support – just listening, and being there. I know a lot of people have troubles with their in-laws of some form or another, but I love my mother-in-law. I couldn’t have asked for a better one.<\/p>\n
I read a very interesting perspective the other day, though unfortunately I can’t remember where. She said that the reason so many people react badly to talk of infertility is because it makes them feel vulnerable. It’s much easier to go through life believing it could never happen to you, but when you have someone right in front of you saying, no it’s not that easy, no we don’t know why – well a lot of people find it easier to blame the victim. “Well you aren’t relaxing enough,” “You’re thinking too much about it.” I’ve noticed that with a lot of things in life. When something bad happens, people like to justify it, find reasons for it. The old, “She shouldn’t have been wearing that,” when a girl gets raped. It makes the world a whole lot less scary if you believe there’s a reason behind it.<\/p>\n
We’re not officially classified as dealing with “infertility” yet – and light willing we’ll never get to that point. But after being having my illusions broken about how “easy” getting pregnant would be, I’m definitely keeping an open mind and planning for the future, just in case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
