Well, I went to the obgyn today. First thing they did was take a urine sample. As I sat down and waited I saw them with test strips and a color chart like the one I used. So they seated me in a room, the midwife came in, I explained my symptoms, she asked how long I’ve been having them, I said “2 weeks,” she said, “2 weeks?!” Haha. The page on my chart had “UTI” written across the top of it. I peered over and said that my PCP told me I didn’t have a UTI. She stared. “What test did they do?” She said my sample had lots of protiens, white blood cells (knew that), and some blood in it… “We call that a UTI.” Ha. Haha. So she gave me a prescription for antibiotics.<\/p>\n
I then brought up the blood tests and she was like “That’s a good question!” So she jotted down the list again for my chart, then started filling out a lab form, had me sign some stuff consenting to an HIV test (one of the blood tests she wanted me to get), etc etc, then some other nurse handed me the completed form and told me to go out into the building and down the hall. Apparently there’s a lab thing there. Woo. So I went, gave more information, sat down, gave more information, filled out another form… then they called me into the back to draw blood. Yerg.<\/p>\n
Now granted – I’m a lot better about it than I was before I got blood drawn last year, that’s for sure. It’s a pity they couldn’t release any of that info to me, because I know they tested some of the stuff I wanted to know, like chicken pox immunity. (They wouldn’t release any info, because they were not functioning as doctors, they were functioning as government agents… had to sign a bunch of forms about that.) So she tied a tourniquette to my arm, tapped the veins, tapped tapped, turned my arm this way and that… tried the other arm… went back to my right. Decided on a vein. I hate the PINCH it feels going in URRGGG. I just kept telling myself it was my cat clawing me, lmao! I think that’s a new one. So she took vials and vials. I didn’t look. I can look at the blood just fine – I just start twitching when I think about\/look at a needling in my skin. Not cool. So I looked away while she did all that. At the end she was tapping my arm and turning it slightly, like to coax more blood out. She took it out. Big BIG sigh of relief. Then she said, in a very very apologetic voice, “That last one only got half a vial, I need to do it again.” Waahhhh. So I suffered again for one vial. -.- But then it was done!! Yippee!!<\/p>\n
I go back at the end of July to get the results – apparently they must give HIV results in person. *shrug* I’d rather talk with her about them anyways instead of get them over the phone from some nurse.<\/p>\n
I really like this midwife, by the way. Hopefully, if all goes well, she can be my primary prenatal caretaker throughout my pregnancy, and deliver the baby. :) (Midwives don’t do c-sections, so you actually end up getting a better statistical chance of avoiding one.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
