So today I had my first appointment with my new ob\/gyn. I got there a little early, which is good since I woke up late and flew out the door. :shock: Handed over my already-filled-out paperwork, my insurance card, and my co-pay, then sat and waited. I was called in by an office assistant to take my weight (142, UGH) and blood pressure (110\/67) and ask a few quick questions about birth control (umm, none), when my last period was, etc.<\/p>\n
I met the doctor in his office, which is a hell of a lot more comfortable than perched on an examination table. It was a really great conversation. He said they don’t really worry about infertility until you’ve been trying for a year, but if we’re really worried we could get a sperm analysis done… but we’d have to pay out-of-pocket $150-$200. Ouch. I told Den that and he said, “We’ll wait 6 months.” Heh. We really can’t afford anything right now. The doctor did say that the celexa is fine, and cited new studies saying that it’s safer for the baby for the mother to be on meds than anxious or depressed. He also said the newest studies are showing that celexa is pretty safe – I have a feeling it’s going to be moved to a class B within a couple of years. That was the main reason for my visit, and I feel so relieved – I was prepared for a bit of an argument about it. ;) I also told the doctor that I’m charting and ovulating on about cycle day 14, he was amused, said my body must have read a textbook. :D<\/p>\n
He also said that his medical association\/office is recommending pre-conception genetic councelling – general blood tests and a family medical history, just to spot any potential problems. So I made the appointment for two weeks from today, for Den and I to go in. Said it should take about 20 minutes, no biggie. Unfortunately it’s also time for my annual pap, so I had to make that appointment too – if I wanted to make the appointment with the doctor I’d have to wait 3 months. :shock: But I could also make it with the nurse practitioner, which I went ahead and did. It makes no difference to me who pokes around, and the sooner the better IMO. That’s in three weeks.<\/p>\n
So all in all I’m very happy with this new doctor. I really feel like I can trust him, which is important during a pregnancy! He had all the right answers, he knew about all the new studies and charting and all that (believe it or not, some doctors don’t believe in charting! :shock: ). He also muttered about George Bush a bit. :D That made me laugh.<\/p>\n
